Who inherits if there's no will?

The law decides, in a fixed order. It may not be who you'd pick.

A husband, wife or civil partner gets the most, often everything.
Children share what's left over a set amount.
No partner or children? It goes to parents, then brothers and sisters, then wider family.
An unmarried partner gets nothing automatically, however long you've been together.
Friends and charities get nothing unless you write it down.

If there's no family at all, everything goes to the Crown.
